Hey, I'm Kayla!

I am a Master of Social Work student at Eastern University and will be completing my practicum with Luna Counselling and Wellness!

Before this, I completed my Bachelor of Recreation at Memorial University in St. John's in 2014 and a Bachelor of Social Work in 2022 from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, where I developed a passion for helping those who have experienced mental health issues throughout their lifespan.

I have worked over a decade in non-profit organizations, and gained valuable experiences with women experiencing trauma and homelessness, as well as a passion for providing services to those with disabilities.

I am also a trained postpartum doula, so I have plenty of experience supporting mothers in the postpartum period, with concerns such as infant feeding and sleep. Although this role will not be part of my internship, I Iook forward to applying this expertise to my counselling practice.

Kayla will be joining us for her practicum starting in January 2024 -  she can serve clients in NB, PEI, NL , MB, and BC.

Her sessions will be $35 - if this is still an inaccessible rate for you, please let us know and we can adjust.

Kayla's Services

Kayla's lived experience with a disability has provided her with a unique perspective and shapes how she approaches her practice from a holistic, integrative lens that looks at the person as a whole. Through her journey in motherhood, she realized the need within her community for maternal mental services. She is pursuing her degree to provide the women, children, and families within her community with the best possible care. Kayla is trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and will be taking the Perinatal Mental Health basic training from Postpartum Support International at the beginning of her practicum.

Kayla has a Bachelor of Recreation, a Bachelor of Social Work, and is finishing up her Master of Social Work with us. She is also trained as a postpartum doula, with extra training in lactation support. Kayla has applied suicide intervention training and mental health first aid.
